Euglena Co., Ltd. Participates in the “SKS JAPAN 2023 After Event”

From July 27th to 29th, 2023, the "SKS JAPAN 2023 -Global Foodtech Summit-" took place at Tokyo Port City Takeshiba Port Hall. Players from the global food tech industry gathered for this event, with numerous lectures and discussions held in a hybrid format that combined both online and in-person interactions. On the last day, the "SKS JAPAN 2023 After Event" was held at COREDO Muromachi's Muromachi Mitsui Hall & Conference. This event offered attendees the chance to savor foods created through various food tech innovations while facilitating in-depth conversations amongst the participants. As part of this, Euglena Co., Ltd. showcased its 2040 Sustainable Ramen and Euglena Tempeh Chips.

2040 Sustainable Ramen is an instant cup noodle that utilizes ingredients that have the potential to grow and be cultivated even in a special and closed environment such as space, as a challenge to "Space Food 3.0," a locally produced and locally consumed space food. These ingredients can be cultivated even under harsh conditions and do not burden the earth, making them not only space food, but also a “planetary health” food. The soup is made with Aurantiochytrium, a type of microalgae rich in DHA. The soup has a strong seafood flavor, is rich in nutrients, and is low in salt. The noodles are made from kamut wheat, which has a strong life force and requires no chemical fertilizers or pesticides. The chashu pork is made from soybean meat with euglena, a completely plant-based meat. Vegetables are made from Uchiwa cactus, which is noted for its resistance to heat, dryness, and other environmental factors, and is also rich in nutrients.

The ramen was tasted by 80 participants, all of whom drank down the soup and said it was delicious. The soup using Aurantiochytrium as broth was especially well received. Many were also surprised and interested in the use of Uchiwa cactus. By eating sustainable ramen, we were able to expand the concept of “planetary health” as a real experience.

In this After Event, we not only introduced our company, but also interacted with many food tech related companies. We discussed the future of food tech and planetary health and explored possibilities for collaboration.

Here is an example of a company that participated in this event, Luna Robotics, Inc. Luna Robotics, Inc. is developing a new genre of kitchen appliances specializing in seasoning called <colony>, a seasoning printer. By simply selecting a favorite recipe from a dedicated smartphone app, the seasoning for the chosen dish is blended in the machine and comes out. This tool opens up possibilities like "you can enjoy real Japanese food all over the world, or gourmet food from all over the world at home." and "the right amount of food at the right time, managed by AI for beauty and health management, and also to reduce food loss problems. At the event, they used "colony" and a robot arm to serve various kinds of rice with tea, which was a great hit.
