This research will develop a technology to capture and resource carbon dioxide (CO2) through mass cultivation of microalgae and use it to produce new fermentation products and hydrogen-based fuels (hydrogen and ammonia). Then, we will propose economically rational policy proposals to optimize and implement this technology in the Southeast Asian region, aiming to improve the sustainable productivity of energy and food resources. Specifically, the project aims to (1) develop CO2 capture technology by implementing microalgae photobioreactors in thermal power plants, a major source of CO2 emissions, and microalgae genome breeding technology in partner countries, (2) develop new fermented foods and fermented composts by fermentation remodeling using microalgae, and (3) use chemical looping (3) Advancement of hydrogen-based fuel production technology from biomass using chemical looping, and (4) Decarbonization of thermal power generation by co-firing biomass and hydrogen-based fuels with coal. Based on the research results of (1) through (4), economically rational policy proposals will be developed in collaboration with research institutes, thermal power and renewable energy companies, and government agencies in the partner countries, with the aim of linking them to social implementation.
